Let's take a trip down memory lane...

This is the place you'll end up when you lose the chase

Sometimes you just need a good song to remember things by. Just something to reflect. Elliott Smith's Memory Lane (off Basement on the Hill), is good for that. I does make me want to go lay in bed all day. You can escape for the three minutes of the song and breathe. It's upbeat enough so you won't start crying, but the lyrics are meaningful.

After lengthy absence....

Interpol. I love them to death I really do. So, you can only imagine my happiness when I heard the new album was going to be coming out on July 10, and also my complete displeasure when I read they are going to be doing a 19+ show at the Guvernment. But I was happy for them, they signed with Capitol over the past year for their major label debut. I had been hearing a lot of people who were upset they were leaving Matador and I thought those people were being selfish. I mean I love the indie labels as much as the next girl, but bands do go on to bigger and brighter things, and we as fans, should be happy for them. So I was optimistic.

Their new single The Heinrich Maneuver is, as oxymoronic as I sound, identical and completely different. Let me explain. I feel like I've heard the guitar before. It's very Antics. But the vocals are hugely different. The voice is definitely Paul Banks, just less brooding like The Smiths, and Joy Division. It's a lot peppy and faster. Honestly, I can't tell if I like it. Yesterday I didn't. Relistening to it this morning, I'm more open. It's not my favorite, I know that. I think I might get bored, but I'm not completely turned off.
